Position Title: MS Biostatistician

Duties & Responsibilities: Job Summary: The Yale Program of Applied Translational Research is a dynamic environment dedicated to improving the health of patients with kidney diseases, and the efficiency by which renal care is delivered. The Program is looking for a biostatistician with experience in managing, programming and analyzing data from multiple sources including large administrative datasets. The successful candidate will work with investigators, other biostatisticians, database administrators, research coordinators and graduate students to complete various projects using a variety of statistical techniques. Essential Duties: 1. Interact with a collaborative team of clinical investigators and epidemiologists to provide biostatistical and programming support in the TRP from the hypothesis generation phase through the dissemination of results. 2. Extract and merge data from multiple sources. 3. Provide biostatistical input during the development and management of databases with investigators. 4. Independently carry out analyses for many types of data including administrative datasets, research datasets, observational studies with biomarker collection, and randomized controlled trials. 5. Determine appropriate statistical approach and conduct analyses of data. Requires the use of methods for cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses, including multivariable logistic regression, Cox PH modeling, general estimating equations, diagnostic studies (ROC curves, predictor curves), survival analysis, meta-analysis, linear mixed modeling, generalized estimating equations, as well as methods with missing data (i.e., likelihood techniques, imputation, weighting). 6. Participate in the development of operations and procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of statistical data. Participate in developing data collection forms for studies. Operate one or more systems of computer hardware and statistical analysis software for the management and analysis of data. 7. Investigate, evaluate and prepare reports on applicability, efficiency, and accuracy of statistical methods used in obtaining and evaluating data. 8. Interact with internal contacts such as principal investigators, research project team, clinicians and data processing and management staff to aid in the design of testing criteria and assist in specific aspects of research planning. Interact with external contacts such as computer design facility, vendors, suppliers and research and educational staff at other institutions to obtain state-of-the-art statistical procedures, systems and equipment. 9. Assist biostatistics team and investigators in the review/preparation of research protocols, grants and manuscripts (i.e. provide input on study design, data collection and formulation and description of appropriate statistical methods, sample size requirements and best research methods). 10. Work on several projects concurrently. 11. Ensure data security and compliance with data use agreements by becoming knowledgeable about, and strictly adhering to, the policies and procedures set forth by institutions in their data use agreements. 12. Provide biostatistical consultation and assist in the training of faculty, residents and students in the principles of biostatistics and study design through lectures, workshops and one-on-one interactions.

Position Qualifications: Education and Experience: 1. Masters Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or relevant field and two years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Education and Experience Preferred: 1. At least two to three years of experience. 2. Knowledge of multiple statistical packages (SAS, SPSS and STATA). 3. Experience with medical terminology (especially kidney and cardiac diseases). 4. Experience with administrative data. Skills & Abilities: 1. Well developed analytical, organizational, and oral and written communication skills. 2. Effective supervisory skills.
