The Biostatistics and Bioinformatics shared resource of the National Cancer Institute-designated, Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University is seeking highly motivated staff bioinformatics positions to enhance our fast-growing scientific programs in cancer research. We conduct methodologic research in early phase clinical trial design in biostatistics and are seeking individuals with bioinformatics experience to advance cancer research, provide support to medical investigators in cancer related conditions, and collaborate with our colleagues in the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at Emory University. The shared resource currently has 4 Doctoral-level and 2 masters-level Biostatisticians. The successful candidates are expected to engage in collaborative cancer research with clinicians and scientists producing high-dimensional ('omic') data, especially with members of our Winship cancer genomics shared resource.
Position Title:
BIOINFORMATIC ANALYST POSITON
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but not limited to pre-processing of and data analysis for research, presentation, and publication using appropriate bioinformatics tools and a variety of database and software applications. Candidate with hands-on research experience in data generated from next generation sequencing technologies are preferred. Additional demonstrated competence in bioinformatics including Perl, SQL, PHP, and cgi-scripting is preferable.
Position Qualifications:
Successful candidates will hold an MS in bioinformatics, chemistry, biochemistry or related field. Two years of experience in bioinformatics and/or computational chemistry. Strong analytical skills to address the following high-dimensional data types: microarray gene expression arrays, SNP arrays, methylation arrays, and data generated from Next generation sequencing technologies. Additional skills in biological pathway analysis, phylogenetics, genome comparison and polymorphism analysis are desired. Experience in cancer research is preferred. Candidates will also have a demonstrated competence in appropriate computer languages including Perl, SQL, PHP and cgi-scripting; Operating Systems including UNIX and UNIX variants, Windows, and/or Macintosh; Relational Database including knowledge of Sybase and SQL. The Bioinformatics Analyst will have a solid knowledge of molecular biology as it relates to DNA sequences, sequencing technologies and genomics. Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent organization and time management skills, ability to meet schedules, and the ability to collaborate across a multi-disciplinary team are important qualifications.
