Company Information: Statistics for Innovation is one of the 14 Norwegian Centres for Research-based Innovation with the aim to enhance the capability of the Norwegian economy to innovate by focusing on long-term research forging alliances between research-intensive enterprises and prominent research groups. Statistics for Innovation develops core statistical methodologies strategically necessary to achieve innovation goals in four key sectors: marine health petroleum and finance. The centre operates from 1.1.2007 for eight years based at the Norwegian Computing Center Norsk Regnesentral (NR) in Oslo and in partnership with the University of Oslo the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and 11 partners: Statoil DnBNOR Gjensidige Hydro Institute of Marine Research Sencel Biomolex Pubgene Rikshospitalet-Radiumhospitalet Smerud Medical Research and Spermatech. Statistics for Innovation is funded by the Research Council of Norway and by the partners with an annual budge t of about 4 mill Euro. About 40 researchers actively join the research projects of the centre. Position Title: Ph.D Research Fellowship Duties & Responsibilities: Statistics for Innovation offer one 3-year Ph.D fellowship. The project will be application-driven with an emphasis towards marine biological problems. We have developed internationally recognised competence in statistical modelling of marine populations and this PhD project represents an exciting opportunity to develop new statistical methodology for a sustainable management of fish populations in the Barents Sea. Through our partners the candidate will have close contact with experts within marine biology and fishery management. Position Qualifications: Statistics for Innovation offer one 3-year Ph.D fellowship. We seek a candidate with a master in statistic and who is interested in developing statistical methodology within the areas of spatial and spatio-temporal statistics Bayesian methods and simulation based inference. The project will be application-driven with an emphasis towards marine biological problems.
