Position Title:
Master's Level Statistician
Duties
& Responsibilities:
Johns Hopkins University is developing the novel field of
epigenomics and has created a master’s level position for a
Statistician interested in an
exciting interdisciplinary field of potentially broad public health
importance. Work will be supervised by Dr. Andrew
Feinberg Center for Epigenetics and Dr. Rafael Irizarry Department of
Biostatistics. Responsible for tracking of project-specific
issues from initiation through release. Independently identify problems
encountered during data release process and troubleshoot these
problems. Responsible for preparation of data files and
statistical reports for project release. Identify systematic problems
with data related to lab or data cleaning methods software or
personnel. Work with Rafael Irizarry Professor of
Biostatistics to modify programs as needed. Utilize standard and
non-standard biostatistical and database methods for the production of
statistical analyses. Collaborate with investigators on protocol
designs data analysis plans grant
applications and preparation of presentations and publications. Use
micro mini and mainframe computing systems. Function independently and
in collaboration with faculty to solve problems posed by the laboratory
investigators. Communicate with investigators to determine their needs
with respect to statistical design of studies including sample size
calculations and randomization. Contribute to the local protocol
development and the preparation of research grant applications in the
collaborative setting. Implement appropriate methodologic procedures
for statistical analysis overall descriptive statistics exploratory
data analyses including graphs schematic summaries and necessary
transformations and confirmatory data analyses including statistical
tests
and/or modeling. Write computer codes in a procedural-oriented computer
language to accomplish the actual statistical analysis; select the
appropriate computing environment (PC minicomputer or mainframe.
Interpret and analyze the results of statistical
analyses. Discuss with colleagues investigators and
supervisor the need for any additional analyses and/or special
methodologic needs. Prepare written reports of statistical
analyses including relevant statistical theory references methods
results and conclusions. Maintain appropriate systems for database
associated management. Keep abreast of technical and academic resources
related to the methodology of statistical analyses.
Position
Qualifications:
Master’s degree required in statistics/biostatistics. One
year of related experience required. Demonstrated ability on
significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may
substitute for experience. Thorough understanding of
microcomputers minicomputers and mainframe computers. Good
interpersonal skills in dealing with investigators and understanding
their problems. Good organizational written and verbal communication
skills in the preparation and presentation of results.
