Company Information: Located on the Harvard Medical Campus the Department of Biostatistics was one of the first departments in the newly formed Harvard School of Public Health in 1922. Called the Department of Vital Statistics until 1946 it was a result of the work of Lemuel Shattuck in the last century. Shattuck founded the American Statistical Association in 1839 the oldest professional society in America; his name is preserved on a street that runs through the campus. The departmental location is central to its mission: to facilitate collaborations between the members of the Department and other medical scientists. The Department is comprised of approximately 70 students 60 faculty members and 55 research scientists research associates and fellows. Our size contributes to our ability to address a broad spectrum of biostatistical and public health issues.

Position Title: Research Associate/Scientist

Duties & Responsibilities: The Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health has an immediate opening for a PhD level Research Associate or Research Scientist statistician collaborating in several projects on environmental biostatistics and epidemiology. Our team of statisticians and epidemiologists conducts research on a broad range of issues including air pollution climate change and tobacco control. The position requires working collaboratively with teams of researchers on the acquisition and management of high dimensional data sets; initiating and conducting database studies; performing data analyses; contributing to the writing of research articles and grant proposals; and supervising master's level staff. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will take an active role in the leadership of several ongoing projects.

Position Qualifications: Candidates must have a doctoral degree in statistics biostatistics applied mathematics or computer science with broad training and good habits in data management and analysis. Candidates should have 2 - 4 years of experience. Strong oral and written communication skills are paramount. Experience with R SAS SQL Perl and Python along with experience with the management and the analysis of Medicare Claims data is highly desirable.
