Biostatistician
This individual will be a key member of the research team at the
InMotion Musculoskeletal Institute. (S)He will provide knowledge and
assistance in protocol development and in statistical analysis for our
clinical research staff as well as for our clinician scientists and
other principle investigators conducting research either on clinical
or experimental studies.
Responsibilities include programming, analysis of data, graphical
presentation, reporting of results, interpretation and explanation of
statistical techniques used and making valid inferences. These
activities are to be executed as appropriate under the guidance of the
clinical research team, clinician scientist, or principle
investigators. Direct communication with investigators is expected,
and this individual will be working independently with investigators
and other researchers on the InMotion staff or with InMotion partners.
This individual should have a PhD (preferred) degree in Biostatistics,
Applied Statistics or a related field Highly preferable is significant
experience in database design and use. In addition, a minimum of two
years work experience consistent with that expected of a statistical
analyst position is required (internships and assistantships apply).
Special skills, knowledge, and abilities include:
--Statistics/Methods (required)
--Familiarity with descriptive statistics and statistical methods such
as linear statistical models (e.g., analysis of variance and
regression) and analysis of categorical data and survivorship analysis.
--Knowledge of statistical software such as SAS, R/SPlus, StatXact,
Stata, Minitab, etc.
--Knowledge of word processing software (MS Word) including spelling
and grammar checking tools; knowledge of table creation; knowledge of
other graphic software packages
--Knowledge of presentation software and other mediums used for
presentation purposes, with knowledge of standard graph and chart
types including scatter plots, line graphs and bar charts.
--Graphic software knowledge of programs such as Excel, PowerPoint,
Harvard Graphics, etc.
Database (highly desired)
The individual should have expertise and experience in envisioning,
designing, and implementing registries and databases to be used in
clinical research settings. This includes designing and pulling
various reports from the data.
The individual should have demonstrated excellent writing and
communication skills and be able to effectively verbally express
ideas, as well as the ability to interpret statistical data, to
evaluate reports, research studies and other data, to translate
technical statistical terminology in terms understandable to
non-statisticians, and to manage multiple projects with competing
deadlines in a professional manner.
(S)He will play a key role at the institute and must therefore have
outstanding project management skills, have impeccable character and
integrity, be able to provide leadership from a statistical
point-of-view in the development of protocols, the analysis of data,
and the interpretation of data.Previous work in a healthcare or
medical environment would be an important characteristic for
consideration of this position.
