Position Title: Biostatistician-13099BR

Duties & Responsibilities: The Yale Center for Analytical Sciences and Department of OB/GYN are looking for a statistician with experience managing, programming and analyzing data from multiple sources including large administrative data sets. As a member of the YCAS team, this person will provide statistical analysis and support for clinical, comparative effectiveness, and epidemiologic studies in the new Section of Comparative Effectiveness Research in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences. Essential Duties: 1. Interact with a collaborative team of clinical investigators, epidemiologists, and basic scientists to provide biostatistical and programming support in the Department from the hypothesis generation phase through dissemination of results 2. Extract merge and analyze research data from multiple sources including national registries, birth certificate data, billing records, and other research datasets. 3. Provide biostatistical input during the development and management of databases with investigators 4. Independently carry out analyses according to project timelines. 5. Organize and create documents and tables related to datasets; communicate with data sources about data accuracy and data dictionary. 6. Prepare written and oral reports that summarize the analysis of research data, interpret the findings and provide conclusions and recommendations. 7. Assist investigators in the review/preparation of research protocols, grants and manuscripts for multiple projects (i.e. provide input on study design, data collection, the formulation and description of the appropriate statistical methods, sample size requirements and best research methods). 8. Ensure data security and compliance with data use agreements by becoming knowledgeable about, and strictly adhering to, the policies and procedures set forth by institutions in their data use agreements. 9. Provide biostatistical consultation and assist in the training of faculty, residents, and students in the principles of biostatistics and study design through workshops and one-on-one interactions.

Position Qualifications: 1. Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or relevant field and two years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Education and Experience Preferred: 1. One to two years of research experience conducting analysis of health outcomes using large administrative and research data sets under complex survey designs. Preferred: 2. Strong knowledge and experience utilizing SAS programming to conduct statistical analyses. Preferred: 3. Experience with cost-effectiveness analysis, using TreeAge or equivalent software. Preferred: 4. Interest, training, and/or experience in health care economics. Skills & Abilities 1. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. 2. Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task by setting working priorities among a number of different concurrent projects. 3. Familiarity with multiple statistical packages (SAS, STATA, S+, Tree Age, SUDAAN). 4. Proficiency in multivariate regression, categorical data analysis, survival analysis, repeated measures analysis of complex survey designs and other statistical techniques, including sample size determination. 5. Working knowledge of decision analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, and meta-analysis. 6. Ability to manage and develop databases in Microsoft Access. 7. Excellent programming, analytical and problem resolution skills. 8. Knowledge of research design, data collection methods and principles. 9. Ability to work independently with moderate supervision. 10. Ability to discuss, write about and present the statistical aspects of studies with the team and clinical investigators
