Duties & Responsibilities:
Position Summary The College of Science at Virginia Tech, in support of the university's strategic plan, is expanding its research presence in Energy and the Environment, Neuroscience, Nanoscience/ Macromolecules, and Visualization, Pattern Recognition & Data Analytics through interdisciplinary faculty hires across departments. As part of this initiative, the Department of Statistics invites applications for a tenure-track position in the area of Neuroscience/Developmental Science including areas of research such as computational statistics, data mining, data visualization, pattern recognition, machine learning, image analysis, or related areas. Appointments at the assistant professor level are preferred but exceptional senior candidates will be considered. Candidates with research interests that support the College of Science initiatives in the areas of Neuroscience and Developmental Science are particularly encouraged to apply. Responsibilities The person appointed will have the following responsibilities: the development and maintenance of a distinguished and interdisciplinary research program; the continuing development of her/his own scholarly activities and professional capabilities; active and effective participation in undergraduate and graduate instruction and student advising; active and effective participation in department and university administrative governance; and, adherence to the responsibilities of the general faculty as described by the faculty handbook (http://www.provost.vt.edu).

Required Qualifications All applicants must have: a strong commitment for excellence in research; a desire to advise and teach a student body which is diverse with respect to socio-economic status, interests, and abilities; the ability to discern future trends in the discipline; vision, creativity, and leadership skills; and commitment/sensitivity to address issues of diversity in the university community. Applicants must have earned a doctorate at the time of appointment. Senior applicants must have an internationally recognized and well-funded research program leading to publications in the highest-quality journals. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates whose research areas complement existing strengths in the departments.
Salary Range:
Negotiable, depending on background and experience.
