Position Title: Postdoctoral Researcher

Duties & Responsibilities: A postdoctoral position is available in the Division of Biostatistics, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, at the University of Miami. The successful applicant will work on developing and testing statistical methodology for an on-going research project funded by the NSF/DTRA, “ATD Collaborative Research: Statistical Ensembles for the Identification of Bacterial Genomes” with Dr. Jennifer Clarke, Dr. Bertrand Clarke (Center for Computational Sciences, UM), and Dr. Adrian Dobra (Department of Statistics, University of Washington). The goal of this grant is to develop statistical approaches to bacterial identification from next generation sequencing (NGS) data. This will involve both theory and computation. The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with faculty statisticians on developing and testing methods for bacterial identification and will have regular interactions with bioinformaticians and researchers in genomics. We encourage postdoctoral researchers to travel to national conferences (with support) to present their findings and to publish in recognized journals. This position will be for three years (annual appointment with renewal), at a starting salary of $45,000-50,000 per annum plus benefits.

Position Qualifications: The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. in statistics or another closely related area. Requirements include an excellent background in statistical, computational and machine learning techniques; strong programming skills in R and preferably C/C++; effective communication skills both verbal & written; plus a commitment to bacterial genomics research.

Salary Range: $45k - $50k per year
