Company Information: The Division of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics in the Department of Public Health Sciences (DPHS) at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in bioinformatics at the rank of Assistant Professor. DPHS currently has 42 doctoral faculty members (tenure-track and non-tenure-track) and 10 masters level faculty members in three divisions: Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology and Health Services Research (www.pennstatehershey.org/phs).

Position Title: Assistant Professor

Duties & Responsibilities: The successful candidate needs to develop his/her own research program and be willing to collaborate with biomedical researchers. There are University-wide efforts in genomics and personalized medicine, and opportunities for collaboration include research activities within various Penn State Institutes, such as the Cancer Institute, the Heart and Vascular Institute, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and the Huck Institute of the Life Sciences. Finally, the successful candidate will develop a graduate-level course in bioinformatics in anticipation of the Biostatistics PhD program that DPHS anticipates offering in the near future.

Position Qualifications: Qualifications include a PhD or equivalent degree in statistical genomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related area, with relevant postdoctoral research training and a record of excellence in research. The successful candidate should demonstrate promise of developing into a strong researcher in bioinformatics, especially with respect to high-throughput data analysis and modeling that are relevant to fields of current interest in molecular biology, cell biology, genomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and translational biomedical research. First-hand knowledge of experimental techniques in these fields is highly desirable.

Salary Range: Starting salary for a newly-awarded PhD is $90,000, and years of experience beyond the PhD will increase the alary accordingly.
