Position Title:
Mathematics: Tenure Track Faculty Position
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Quinnipiac University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in statistics, beginning August 2012. Hiring at the Associate Professor level may be considered in exceptional cases. The university is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching. The successful applicant will be expected to teach and develop courses in biostatistics for health science majors, probability and statistics for math majors, and applied statistics for engineers, as well as other math and general education courses. He or she will also maintain an active and successful research program, commensurate with a 3/3 teaching load. Additional responsibilities include advising and engaging in university service. Quinnipiac University is experiencing significant growth, and the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science figures prominently in this expansion. The department currently supports around 110 majors, including over 80 math majors. We anticipate increased demand for classes in mathematics and statistics as the University develops engineering programs (Fall 2012) and starts a medical school (Fall 2013). Application materials should include: a cover letter which addresses the candidate's qualifications in statistics, a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a research statement, and the names and contact information, including addresses and phone numbers, for three professional references. After initial consideration has been completed, candidates selected for further consideration will be asked to submit letters of recommendation from their references. Two of the reference letters should address teaching. We expect to participate in the employment center at the Joint Mathematics Meeting in Boston, January 4-7, 2012. Position Qualifications:
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in statistics or Ph.D. in mathematics with significant background in statistics.
