| Company Information:
Sub Agency: National Center for Health Statistics, Office of Research and Methodology
Position Title:
Associate Service Fellow/Statistician
Duties & Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for developing fast, relatively model-free methods for estimating the small-area variability of a wide variety of survey outcomes. The purpose of the project is to identify those outcomes with appreciable variability across small areas. Identifying those outcomes is viewed as a cost-effective way to allocate resources needed for full-scale small-area estimation to outcomes with the most variability. The project will proceed in steps. The first attempt at developing this methodology will likely involve using methods that closely follow the sample design, and this will be followed by basic assessments and possible modification. Lastly, in order to determine how well the procedure can determine outcomes with variability, one small-area outcome determined to be highly variable and one determined to have low variability will be extensively checked including the development of small-area estimates for each. Knowledge of survey design, modeling, and Bayesian methods is needed. A doctoral degree or a master's degree with related experience is valued. The incumbent will be working with a small group of researchers with a similar background.
