Company Information: The Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) is a world-class research institute in the life sciences, integrating theory, modeling and simulation with computational and experimental science in a transdisciplinary, team-based research environment. Position Title: Statisticians (multiple positions)

Duties & Responsibilities: Multiple Statisticians are sought to work with researchers in the Advanced Computing and Decision Informatics Laboratories (ACDIL) in Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) at Virginia Tech. ACDIL conducts research involving large-scale HPC-based simulation of complex socially, technologically, and biologically coupled systems. Statisticians of varying expertise will conduct research related to modeling analysis, experimental design, data libraries, and decision support tools for these large biological, information, social, and technical systems. Statisticians will be expected to publish extensively in peer-reviewed high-impact journals, attend conferences, and lead or participate in (depending on rank and topic) research grant writing and portfolio development. Journey level positions will be offered at the ranks of postdoctoral associate and research associate and will require a PhD for rank of postdoctoral associate and master’s for research associate. Advanced level positions will be offered at the ranks of senior research associate and research scientist and will require a PhD or master’s with equivalent related professional experience. Senior or leadership level positions will be offered at the ranks senior research scientist and professorial (assistant, associate and full) and will require a PhD with relevant professional experience and appropriate credentials befitting the professorial ranks.

Position Qualifications: • Ph.D. in statistics or MS with equivalent related post-degree experience, or in a very closely related field. • PhD level training in statistical science (required for advanced and senior level ranks). • Credentials equivalent at assistant, associate and full professor (required for senior level ranks). • Willingness to work in a team science environment • Experience in analysis of large-scale computational models. • Experience with advanced approaches to the design of experiments and statistical model development in the areas of social, biological, epidemiological, economic, transportation and/or communication modeling. • Experience working with federal, state, and local government entities (required for senior and advanced level ranks). • Demonstrated strong computational, analytical, academic writing and public speaking skills (required for senior and advanced level ranks). • Experience in developing publications based on individual research and evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals. • Dependent on experience and seniority level, must possess appropriate level of independence, high motivation, good communication skills, strong work ethic, and ability to work individually as well as within high-performing and diverse team structures. • Experience in grant identification, proposal preparation and execution (required for senior level ranks).
