This position will work in the NIH funded Chicago Center for Diabetes Translation Research, Section of General Internal Medicine, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Finding Answers: Disparities Research for Change National Program Office. The Diabetes Center aims to develop and evaluate ways to improve diabetes care and prevention in real-world settings, particularly among vulnerable groups such as African Americans, indigent patients in community health centers, older adults, and minority children.
Position Title:
Statistician
Duties & Responsibilities:
Utilize sophisticated statistical programming skills andactively participate in the design, conduct, and interpretation of health services research. The analyses will combine various methodologies such as descriptive statistics, bivariate and multivariate analyses, regression analyses, cox proportional hazards and other methods adapted from health services research and biostatistics. Utilize programming languages such as SAS and STATA. Database construction and data entry tool development may be required for various projects as well. Collaborates with researchers in designing, implementing, and publishing results from research projects and assumes primary responsibility for writing statistical design, methods, and analysis for research proposals. Collaborates with researchers and assists in developing objectives, designing sampling, randomization, and data collection procedures to achieve study objectives. Analyzes data and prepares tables for interim and final reports. Designs tables and statistical procedures for specific research studies. Develops the statistical design and planned analyses for research grant proposals and takes primary responsibility for writing the statistical design, including sample size, and statistical considerations in grant proposals for faculty throughout the unit. Assumes major responsibilities in research projects, e.g. serving on committees, supervising project personnel, coordinating quality control efforts, and serving on writing teams. Develops and implements new innovative procedures in the areas of data collection, quality control, presentation of results, and statistical analyses. Writes the results section of reports and publications. Writes statistical computer programs and reviews computer output for consistency and quality. May oversee the work of lower-level statisticians or data archivists.
Position Qualifications:
Advanced degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field required. A minimum four years of experience analyzing data using statistical software packages required. Ability to train others required. Ability to coordinate the work of others required. Advanced knowledge of statistics required. Advanced knowledge of statistical software packages required. Ability to write statistical computer programs required. Knowledge of database management software required. Analytical skills required. Advanced computational skills required.
