Position Title: Epidemiologist

Duties & Responsibilities: We are seeking to recruit a clinical epidemiologist who will provide expertise in the formulation of clinically significant research questions, the design, conduct and analysis of clinical studies and systematic reviews combined with providing vital clinical insights to the project team. This person will work with and be supported by a team comprising biostatisticians, project and data managers, site monitors, IT, marketing and administrative staff. Occasionally the responsibilities will include conducting methodology consultation clinics, mentoring researchers and medical students and conducting training workshops, writing sections in grant applications and research manuscripts. Training and resources will be provided as needed. Opportunities for applied methodological research are also encouraged for those interested. We envision the ideal candidate to be comfortable with medical terminology and appreciate the issues and concerns of clinical practice. As such they are likely to possess a basic medical, biomedical or biological science degree with Master's level or higher training/experience in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health or quantitative methods. Alternatively, candidates with a basic degree in Statistics or Mathematics with Master's level or higher training/experience in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health and demonstrating a strong awareness of clinical issues, concerns and perspectives may be considered.

Position Qualifications: Basic competencies and qualities expected: 1. Passionate interest in the application of quantitative methods to the problems of healthcare research. 2. Self-motivated and independent learner. 3. Able to formulate an answerable and impactful clinical question, translate these questions into practical and valid research designs and perform basic statistical analyses on clinical research data. 4. Proficient in the use of at least one major statistical analysis package, preferably SAS, SPSS, Stata or S-Plus/R and MS Office applications. 5. A team player and have a good command of spoken and written English, in particular the ability to comfortably converse with clinical collaborators on methodological issues and bridge the gap between clinicians and statisticians. 6. Well organized and capable of managing multiple projects at a time.
