Company Information: The Mathematics Department at USNA consists of 42 civilians with Ph.D.’s and 18 military officers typically with Masters degrees. The USNA Mathematics Department currently has three tenure track civilian faculty and several military instructors whose primary interests are in Operations Research, in addition to three tenure track statisticians among the civilian faculty. The department offers a major in Operations Research along with pure and applied mathematics. The Mathematics Department jointly administers a quantitative economics major with the Economics Department. This program offers unique opportunities for both teaching and research collaboration. Position Title: Assistant Professor, Tenure-track Operations Research / Statistics

Duties & Responsibilities: The successful candidate will help further develop USNA’s Operations Research curriculum, including developing courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. Candidates may also be needed to teach core mathematics courses such as calculus.

Position Qualifications: Applications are invited for a tenure-track position (subject to approval and funding) in Operations Research or Statistics at the Assistant Professor level to start in August 2012. In exceptional cases a higher level appointment may be considered. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Operations Research, Statistics or a similar discipline. A Ph.D. in a mathematical science with significant Operations Research experience may also be considered. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and should exhibit potential to continue an active scholarly program. Promotion and tenure evaluations follow the American Association of University Professors guidelines.

Salary Range: Competive

Benefits: Full summer research support is usually available for the first three years of new appointments. In addition, USNA continues to provide partial research support in the form of matching funds for research collaborations with Department of Defense, government, and industry laboratories. Faculty members receive full federal government service benefits.
