Position Title: Assistant Professor(s)

Duties & Responsibilities: The University of Rhode Island invites applicants to apply for a tenure-track position in the Department of Computer Science & Statistics, College of Arts & Sciences (A&S) with appointment to begin academic year 2012-2013. One position provides reduced statistics teaching responsibilities and support to conduct collaborative research with investigators in The College of the Environment and Life Sciences (CELS). There is potential for a bioinformatics position with support to collaborate with URI NSF EPSCoR scientists, and NIH INBRE (College of Pharmacy - COP) scientists. Duties and Responsibilities include: Conduct research, obtain external research funding, and participate in interdisciplinary research across colleges including CELS and College of Pharmacy; contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses, and advise graduate students.

Position Qualifications: Required Qualifications: 1) A Ph.D. in applied statistics, biostatistics, or bioinformatics, or closely related field, awarded by August 2012. 2) Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching statistics or bioinformatics. 3) Demonstrated potential to develop and maintain a quality collaborative and externally funded research program in statistics, biostatistics, or bioinformatics. 4) Demonstrated potential to help build applied graduate statistics, analytics, and/or informatics programs. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with expertise or demonstrated potential to meaningfully participate in the following will be given the strongest consideration: 1) Demonstrated potential to conduct research with large datasets in the support of genomics, environmental or geospatial science. 2) Demonstrated potential to help develop advanced analytics, bioinformatics and statistics programs, courses, and research at URI. 3) Demonstrated potential to develop new and apply contemporary computational and/or statistical techniques for the analysis of large data sets in domains of high interest at URI, such as the molecular aspects of the biological, ecological, environmental, pharmaceutical, and oceanographic sciences. 4) Demonstrated potential to develop collaborative relationships with other partners in Rhode Island through existing programs such as NSF EPSCoR and NIH INBRE, the Center for Computation and Visualization at Brown University and the Northeast Cyberinfrastructure Consortium.
