Position Title:
Bioinformatics Analyst
Duties & Responsibilities:
Summary: Provides bioinformatics and clinical intelligence solutions to the Pediatric Oncology Clinic and the Cancer Institute in the development implementation and management of an integrated database to support clinical and translational research in Pediatric and adult oncology. Developments and applies bioinformatics methods and software tools for analysis of high-throughput "OMICS", genotype, sequence and other biological data and integration of these data with clinical information to identify biomarkers and drug targets for the development of novel therapeutic strategies with application to cancer. works collaboratively with the Pediatric Oncology Clinic, Cancer Institute and cancer drug discovery research scientists on a wide-variety of basic, clinical, and translational studies. the team member in this position will report to the director of cancer bioinformatics. Special Skills • Working experience in database design, implementation and integration preferably in an academic medical center setting E.G. MSSQL, MYSQL OR POSTGRESQL. • Must have excellent computer programming skills in JAVA, R, PEARL, C, C++ ETC, and working experience in use of bioinformatics tools and LINUX Platforms. • Must have working knowledge of bioinformatics with application to management and analysis of "OMICS", sequence and other biological data, including use of biological databases. • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, and excellent work ethic. • Must be a self-starter, resourceful, excellent problem identification, and analysis and solving skills and must be a team player and have a willingness to learn various technical skills. Duties Design, implement and maintain an integrated database to support basic, clinical and translational research in pediatric oncology. Develop and implement innovative standards-based bioinformatics platform that integrates the clinical data with the biobank. Design and implement laboratory information management system provide flexible research data management solutions. Provide cutting-edge bioinformatics, data management and clinical informatics intelligent solutions to the pediatric oncology clinic and cancer institute investigators. Integrate the pediatric oncology research database with the epic system. Deploy emerging technologies as they come to market integrate the database with distributed high performance computing technologies e.g. supper computing and cloud computing platforms. Position Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, clinical informatics, computer science or closely related field and two (2) years of related experience, or Master’s degree in bioinformatics, clinical informatics, computer science or closely related field with no experience. Experience cannot be substituted for educational requirement. Master’s degree preferred.
