Position Title:
Lecturer - Statistics
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking to expand its Statistics research group. The successful applicant is expected to undertake high-level methodological research in statistics or statistical bioinformatics. He/she should have a commitment to teaching and will be expected to teach statistics subjects to Life Sciences and Biomedical students, as well as teach general statistics subjects. The successful applicant is also expected to supervise research students in statistics or statistical bioinformatics. The University of Melbourne provides a wide range of opportunities for exciting research collaboration, and the candidate will be encouraged to develop genuine collaborative links with other Departments. There will be the opportunity to undertake external consulting. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake some administrative tasks for the Department. 1. Selection Criteria 1.1 ESSENTIAL 1.1.1 A PhD or equivalent research higher degree in Statistics, Statistical Bioinformatics or a related area. 1.1.2 Demonstrated research excellence in relation to career stage. 1.1.3 The capacity and commitment to apply teaching expertise to the teaching of Statistics, Biostatistics or Medical Statistics to large groups of students. 1.1.4 The ability, or the potential, to develop and teach Statistics, Biostatistics or Statistical Bioinformatics subjects at a graduate level. 1.1.5 The ability to teach general statistics subjects at an undergraduate level. 1.1.6 The ability to interact well with other academic staff and to contribute to the administration of a large department. 1.2 DESIRABLE 1.2.1 Expertise in Statistical Bioinformatics 1.2.2 Evidence of success in lecturing first-year service courses 1.2.3 Evidence of success or potential in graduate student supervision. 1.2.4 The ability or the potential to develop research and/or consulting links with other departments of the University of Melbourne and/or with outside bodies in biomedical science.
