Company Information: The Molecular Genetics Group within the Animal Breeding and Genetics Section of the Department of Animal Science is dynamic, well-supported and a world-leader in animal genomics. General information about ISU can be obtained at: http://www.iastate.edu/. ISU is located in Ames, Iowa, which has won many liveability awards, and was named in 2011 by NSF one of America's 20 Geekiest Cities for the percentage of workers with jobs in science, technology, engineering and math- see http://www.forbes.com/sites/williampentland/2011/08/02/geekville-usa-americas-20-geekiest-cities/.

Position Title: Postdoctoral

Duties & Responsibilities: A postdoctoral position is available immediately to work on analysis of multi-platform, high-dimensional data to study molecular differences in genetic lines of pigs divergent for feed efficiency. This research position is a unique opportunity to apply cutting edge technologies to real-world problems in animal agriculture. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research group with a strong track record in the application of molecular genetics and genomics to the identification of genes controlling quantitative traits in livestock. The open position is to support a $5M integrated research and outreach project to understand the genetics and physiology of feed efficiency in pigs. There is approximately $1 million budgeted for a genetic, transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolic analysis of low and high efficiency pigs under several conditions, including immunological and nutritional stress. A main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to develop methods for predicting feed efficiency traits from RNA-seq data and to use integrative analyses for the above datasets to develop a systems-level understanding of the physiological basis for feed efficiency.

Position Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in pig genomics and experience in the application of statistics to biological systems. Experience with immunology and/or nutrition will be considered a plus. Project funding is guaranteed for two years, and a competitive salary is available commensurate with experience.

Salary Range: $39,000-80,000 commensurate with experience

Benefits: standard university benefits for postdoctoral positions
