Position Summary
This position leverages robust, innovative technical statistical expertise, strong communication and technical leadership skills, effective experimental design / data analysis strategies, fit-for-purpose implementation capability applied holistically to solve R&D problems, leading to more effective scientific learning and better evidence-based decision-making from data. This role is integrated within projects to drive greater understanding and insights from data, clearer, defensible, and timely data-driven actions, accelerating successful project completion.

Position Responsibilities (Expected Work)
** Provide focused statistical expertise combined with effective advocacy to R&D study design ensuring solid statistical underpinnings as well as alignment of study designs to project hypotheses and objectives. Ensure that implemented test designs are adequately sensitive, that measurement systems are statistically capable and fit-for-purpose.
** Provide statistical data analysis matched to purpose. Leverage data visualization, holistic multivariate analysis and nonstandard approaches to deliver additional insights and scientific understanding, where potentially beneficial and exploitable.
** Deliver and communicate results succinctly to the team and other appropriate audiences through formal and informal presentations. Fully document important learning and new methodology development in formal reports.
** Train scientists in available statistical computing and data management tools and processes, via one-on-one mentoring, organized courses and special seminars.
** Build and leverage an effective, collaborative network both internally and externally.
** Adapt, devise, and implement novel data-analytical approaches where they add value and insight. Keep abreast of new developments in data sciences. Provide a technical sounding-board to colleagues.
** Support and extend the statistical computing infrastructure, appropriate for strategic delivery of the program. Write and document programs as necessary.

Challenges
** Provide high quality, value-added input and contributions to an array of widely varying types of projects, types of studies, types of data where study design is usually complex.
** Work effectively across a variety of assignments, managing concurrent tasks and priorities, soliciting and achieving priority resolution when required. Deliver against agreed commitments on time and in full. Keep collaborators informed re: timing, progress, obstacles to avoid ambiguity.
** Work with scientists from a wide array of disciplines with varying understanding of statistics
** Timely and effective communication and delivery across diverse geographies, time-zones and cultures.

** This position delivers to the Trumbull skin R&D teams and their associated global partners
** This position influences others at all levels, but is not anticipated to have line reports
** This position may interact with external collaborators and consultants
** This position may interact external to skin R&D on IT concerns

Skills & Competencies
Education
Ph.D. (applied) or M.S in Statistics or closely related field

Experience
3 or more years experience for Ph.D., or 7 or more years experience for M.S. as statistician/data scientist in consumer products, clinical, pharmaceutical, or relevant industrial R&D.

Skills
Science and technology expertise
** Expertise and experience in applying systematic experimental design, panel size estimation, linear models, nonparametrics, multivariate analysis, data-mining
** Experience with SAS programming is required. Experience with as many of the following are beneficial: JMP, Spotfire, SPLUS, R, SPSS, XLSTAT, Excel, MS/Access, VB
Consumer/ Customer Focus
** Experience with consumer testing design/methodology and relevant scales/measures used in consumer evaluation is very beneficial
** Customer oriented view for understanding scientist needs and how to fulfill is also beneficial
** Claims Definition & Risk Management - Appreciation/experience of statistical testing and product claims issues is beneficial
