The University of Florida in cooperation with
the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, A.R.M. Loxahatchee NWR seeks a
post doctoral scientist (1 year) to conduct data analysis and report
and manuscript preparation for a project that has been examining the
role of natural (hurricanes) disturbance on the spread of Old
World climbing fern (Lygodium micophyllum). The
successful candidate will work collaboratively with FWS, UF, and
USGS scientists to complete a three year project that was initiated
in 2006 to examine post-hurricane colonization of tree islands by
Lygodium with emphasis on differences in open and closed areas
and patterns of Lygodium patch development and expansion. We
seek an individual who has a strong ecological background with a firm
understanding of current statistics, spatial statistics, disturbance
ecology, exotic plants, and resource management. Applicant should
possess a doctoral degree in Ecology or related field, exceptional
writing and quantitative skills, particularly spatial and vegetation
analysis, and have a strong interest in completing research that has
direct application to management of natural areas. The position will
be located at the University of Florida's Fort Lauderdale Research
and Education Center, Davie, FL. Salary is $40,000 to $45,000 per
year plus benefits and is commensurate with qualifications and
