Visiting Instructor in/Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Position: Three (or more, contingent upon funding) temporary positions in mathematics are available beginning August 18, 2008. The positions are expected to be at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor depending on the candidate’s qualifications. The positions are one-year, full-time appointments with the possibility of renewal for up to 3 additional years depending on performance and departmental needs.
Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate mathematics and perhaps other courses offered by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. One position requires the ability to teach at least basic statistics courses. A second position requires the ability to teach courses in mathematics education and support students in our Master of Arts in Education-Mathematics program. All positions also include working with students on individual projects, scholarship, and university service.
Qualifications:
Required:
A masters degree in mathematics or a closely related field with substantial coursework in mathematics (doctoral degree for Visiting Assistant Professor rank) by the date of employment
Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching
Demonstrated potential for scholarship and service to the university and profession
Evidence of strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills
Preparation or experience related to the responsibilities for the position
Preferred:
A doctoral degree in mathematics or a closely related field by the date of employment
Evidence of excellence in teaching with extensive experience
Evidence of high-quality scholarly activity
Desire and ability to support Truman’s liberal arts mission both within and outside the department
For one position, a degree in mathematics education, proficiency with various educational technologies, and certification in and experience teaching secondary school mathematics
For one position, advanced coursework or experience in statistics
Salary: Salary commensurate with experience; benefits package includes life, health, and disability insurance, retirement contributions, and partial reimbursement for moving expenses.
Program: The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is part of the College of Arts and Sciences at Truman State University.
