This postdoctoral fellow will work on text mining methodology development and application for scientific literatures in the fields of chemistry, disease biology, and pharmaceutical development etc and will have the opportunity to perform cutting edge research in natural language processing (NLP), statistical modeling, and/or machining learning for text mining projects.
This postdoctoral fellow will have opportunities to conduct text mining research in a number of drug discovery related application areas such as disease-gene relationship and compound-target-phenotype relationship. This position can be located at either of Roche locations, Nutley NJ or Palo Alto CA. For the Nutley NJ location, knowledge in oncology and chemistry is preferred; for the Palo Alto CA location, knowledge in disease biology is preferred.
Requirements:
The candidate should have a PhD in biomedical informatics, statistics, biostatistics or computer science. The successful applicant is expected to have a strong interest in language processing (NLP), statistical modeling and data mining research and familiar with various machine learning methods. Advanced computer skills are required. Applicants are expected to have strong programming skills in languages such as C/C++ or matlab. Being familiar with UNIX, or LINUX operating systems and other scripting languages such as Perl is of advantage but not required.
This position offers an excellent multidisciplinary team-oriented research environment involving collaborations with statisticians, bioinformaticians, biologists, chemists and clinicians. Publication is also encouraged.
