Monsanto Company is a leading global provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity and food quality. 

The Crop Biometrics team seeks a data analyst to support large-scale genotypic and phenotypic data mining projects. The data analyst will:

·       Develop a thorough understanding of Monsanto’s crop and genetic databases, and provide advice on their efficient use

·       Provide recommendations and solutions for efficient extraction, linkage, and organization of data from multiple databases in support of data mining and statistical analysis projects

·       Develop strategies and solutions for linking data from disparate public and internal databases
·       Construct customized data views for large-scale data mining applications
·       Support the development of methods to scale statistical solutions for large scale applications
·       Provide recommendations and solutions for assessing data quality
·       Extract, analyze, and summarize data in support of patent filings

The Crop Data Analyst will interact with plant breeders, statisticians, and IT professionals on multidisciplinary teams dedicated to the genetic improvement of field crops.

The position is located at Monsanto’s high-throughput genotyping and crop analytics facility in Ankeny, Iowa (just north of Des Moines).


Qualifications

Minimum of MS in an information science such as Statistics, Computer Science, or Bioinformatics; knowledge of modern databases (e.g., SQL); and strong programming skills using R, SAS, Perl, C or Java (preferably multiple). Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration and teamwork, and strong communication skills are required. Knowledge of modern statistical methods and experience mining large databases are preferred.
