Applicants must have a doctoral degree in epidemiology or in a closely related field with a strong record of research in epidemiologic studies and clinical trials of cardiovascular diseases, smoking cessation, obesity and/or diabetes. Applicants must also have strong ability and demonstrated interest in teaching and mentoring students. Experience and interest in pediatric epidemiology, behavioral intervention and/or genetic research will be highly desirable. Interest and ability in active collaboration with other investigators in biomedical research at MCG and outside will be an important factor in the selection of candidates. All candidates must show evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates should have a nationally and internationally recognized record of innovative methodological research in epidemiology, significant experience in interdisciplinary research, and established track record of extramural funding.

The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology (recently renamed to reflect the epidemiology expansion) is a very active component of the research enterprise on campus, with strong interest in methodological and collaborative research. Ongoing areas of expertise in the department include bioinformatics, clinical trials, computational biology, genetic epidemiology, public health and statistical genetics. The department also serves as the biostatistics core for the MCG Cancer Center and the GPI. The department offers a Masters and a Doctoral program in Biostatistics, and a Certificate and a Masters program in Clinical and Translational Science.

The Georgia Prevention Institute is a research division within the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Georgia with the common goal of improving the health of society, both today and tomorrow. The focus of GPI includes hypertension, kidney disease, diabetes, congestive heart failure and cancer. Extensive multidisciplinary and clinician/scientist collaboration provides a vast range of expertise enabling multiple perspectives on a single issue. Its physiologic, genetic, epidemiological and interventional research is wide-ranging and far-reaching. In just 25 short years, the GPI has earned an international reputation as a preeminent source of expertise about wellness and disease.

The Department of Biostatistics & Epidemiology is also seeking several more tenure-track or tenured faculty members with expertise in cancer, chronic disease, genetic, molecular, nutrition and other areas of epidemiology, with the goal of building a strong academic program in Epidemiology.

Applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, names of at least three professional references, and a statement of research. For additional information and inquiries, please contact:
