Senior faculty to lead a new Epidemiology Program
The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) invites applications and nominations for a visionary leader to build and lead a strong academic program in Epidemiology within the newly expanded Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the School of Graduate Studies. The successful applicant will subsequently recruit several faculty members to build the program and will lead it in all epidemiology-related research and academic endeavors on campus.
The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology (recently renamed to reflect the epidemiology expansion) is a very active component of the research enterprise on campus, with strong interest in methodological and collaborative research. Ongoing areas of expertise in the department include bioinformatics, clinical trials, computational biology, genetic epidemiology, public health and statistical genetics. The department also serves as the biostatistics core for the MCG Cancer Center and the Georgia Prevention Institute. The department offers a Masters and a Doctoral program in Biostatistics, and a Certificate and a Masters program in Clinical and Translational Science.
We are seeking candidates at the rank of Professor, with a distinguished record of scientific achievement in research, collaboration, training and mentoring. Candidates must have a strong record of extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications as well as have excellent communications skills. The successful applicant will be expected to continue their own funded research, publish in peer-reviewed journals and collaborate with clinical investigators both nationally and within the Medical college of Georgia. A doctoral degree in Epidemiology or a closely related field is required.
The successful applicant will join a team of dedicated and outstanding professionals to build and sustain a reputable department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology with national and international recognition. An attractive recruitment package is available that will facilitate the efforts for building a successful program in Epidemiology.
MCG is committed to becoming a top tier academic health sciences institution fostering world-class biomedical research. Annual extramural support for biomedical research at the MCG has grown from about $28 million in FY1999 to over $65 million by the end of FY2007. NIH funding for research has grown from about $16 million to over $44 million during this same period. We focus our research on Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases, Diabetes, Infection & Inflammation, and Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders. These diseases are the leading causes of premature death and disability in Georgia and in our nation. We are striving to translate our basic research findings into clinical applications enabling earlier detection, diagnosis and efficacious treatment and prevention of these diseases.
Applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, names of at least three professional references, and a statement of research, administrative and educational leadership philosophies and vision. For additional information and inquiries, please contact:
