Post-doctoral Position in statistical genetics and Bioinformati

Loyola University Medical Center, Chicago

Post-doctoral Position

A post-doctoral position is available immediately in Dr. Chindo Hicks’ group (Bioinformatics and Genomics Group), at Loyola University Medical Center, Loyola University Chicago.

Research focus: The group’s research focuses on developing and applying integrative bioinformatics, genomics and computational systems biology approaches to identify and functionally characterize genetic markers involved in common human diseases, focusing on cancer and neurological diseases.

Selection criteria: We are looking for a candidate interested in working on the following projects:

  1. Computational analysis of alternative splicing and mechanisms underlying alternative splicing and assessing its impact on gene function and regulation in cancer.

  2. Integrating gene expression with genome-wide association data to infer causal association between gene expression and disease, to identify causal pathways, and to develop models for predicting risk of disease, focusing on cancer and neurological diseases.

  3. Modeling gene and protein regulatory networks involved in complex diseases using Bioinformatics, data mining and computational systems biology approaches.

Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be working on the group’s bioinformatics and genomics projects listed above. However, the candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in collaborative bioinformatics and genomics projects through the Bioinformatics Core facility.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a Ph.D. in any of the following: Computational biology, bioinformatics, mathematical biology, biophysics, systems biology, or computer science with specialization in algorithm development. Knowledge and experience in computer programming in C, C++, Perl or R is a must.

About the group: The group is involved in many large consortium projects. Other potential collaborative institutions in the Chicago area include: Northwestern University, University of Chicago and University of Illinois.

To Apply: Interested candidates, please send CV, a research statement and three references to:
