Children’s Medical Center (CCHMC) is seeking a talented Master’s level
biostatistician or equivalent to join a dynamic, rapidly growing
research team. The position requires collaboration with
researchers in
the design, execution, and interpretation of large and complex genetic
and genomic datasets. CCHMC is a top-ranking institution
with diverse,
nationally-recognized basic and clinical research programs dedicated to
improving child health. The Center for Epidemiology and Biostatistics,
founded just six years ago, currently has over 40 faculty and staff,

oral communication skills and the technical ability necessary to
perform statistical consultation under the guidance of a faculty-level
biostatistician and independently. The position requires
reasonable (1
to 3 years) experience in the following: using statistical methods,
such as multivariable logistic regression; statistical software
programming experience, especially S-Plus/R and SAS. Experience using
Bioconductor packages in R and other genetic analysis software is
desirable.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE: These positions require a
master’s
degree or above in biostatistics, statistics, quantitative
genetics.
One to three years experience in statistical consulting in a biomedical
research setting is preferred.

Independently communicate with investigators regarding statistical
design and analysis issues.
Prepare
data files for analyzing genetic and genomic data using SAS, MS Excel
including cleaning of data and merging of databases.
Analyze genetic
and genomic data, including microarray data analysis and SNP/haplotype
association studies using statistical tests, such as analysis of
variance, regression analysis using R and SAS, multidimensional
scaling, hierarchical clustering, and class discovery and prediction.
Prepare reports needed in large studies using word processing and/or
typesetting packages (e.g. MS Word, LaTex).
Apply
knowledge of study design to identify flaws in studies and suggest
corrective changes, e.g., the lack of a proper control group.
Recommend
to investigators, based on knowledge and experience, appropriate
statistical analyses, given the design of the studies.
Perform
moderately complex statistical analyses, such as longitudinal analysis
of data using Proc Mixed in SAS, multivariate data analysis such as
principal components analysis, and survival analysis, under the
direction of biostatistics faculty.

analysis, computing (R and SAS), and record of genetic and genomics
research. Has sound professional judgment and works with minimal
direct supervision.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE: MS or MA
Biostatistician. Master’s degree in Biostatistics preferred or a
related field (e.g., Statistics, Epidemiology). Excellent written
and
interpersonal skills required. Experience in the statistical analysis
of large, highly multivariate data, such as genomics data, is
preferred. Working knowledge of R or S-Plus and SAS statistical
software packages required.
