The Boeing Company’s Applied Statistics group is devoted to research and consulting in support of all aspects of the aerospace industry. Our work in industrial statistics often requires the development of innovative approaches. Examples include, airplane component part reliability, system reliability method development, quality assurance evaluation, approval and inputs to regulatory standards, participation in reviews of industry handbooks containing statistical methodology, data modeling including design of experiment consultation, analysis and modeling of part ordering systems, raw material specification tool development, engineering material allowables development, supplier equivalency determination, wind tunnel analysis, survey design and analysis applicable to new airplane customer design preferences, modeling of airport take-offs and landings, statistical instruction of Boeing employees.
The complexity of the aerospace industry also leads us to many other areas of research and applications: image processing, spatial statistics, multivariate time series, data mining, design and analysis of computer experiments, Bayesian information retrieval, financial modeling, and stochastic optimization.
The Applied Statistics group is part of the Networked Systems Technology research and development organization. We are seeking people with the following credentials and aptitudes: Experience in applications, in research, proficiency in statistical analysis packages (SAS, S+ or R), broad knowledge of statistical methodologies commonly used in industry, experienced in consulting with non-statisticians (e.g., engineers, managers, manufacturers); In research, the statistician should show valuable experience through the relevance of their publications; Great enthusiasm, excellent communication skills; Ph.D. in Statistics (or equivalent).
