Faculty position advertisement in
Statistics
The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) at The
University of Arizona invites applications for an academic-year
appointment at the assistant professor level as an active participant
in the Graduate Interdisciplinary Program in Statistics (SGIDP)
associated with the University’s BIO5 Institute for Collaborative
Bioresearch (http://www.bio5.org/). This
appointment will begin August 2, 2007. The successful candidate will
teach, perform scholarly research, and provide academic service in
support of both programs, and will demonstrate experience in or an
ability to develop a research program in statistical computing,
quantitative modeling, statistical analysis, and/or statistical
experiment design in concert with established faculty in ABE, the
SGIDP, and other units across campus. Target areas of research
interest that could support both the SGIDP and ABE in these endeavors
include: statistical computing, statistical design, remote sensing and
geographic information systems (GIS), and bioinformatics.
Research and teaching responsibilities associated with this position
will complement current academic courses and research programs by the
Department, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College
of Engineering and other relevant units in the University.
Teaching responsibilities will include two to three graduate or
undergraduate courses per year with one in ABE and at least one in
support of the SGIDP. The budgetary distribution of effort is 70%
research, 30% teaching. Opportunities exist for participation in
international programs.
Required qualifications: A Ph.D. in Statistics or related field
is required. It is desirable for the candidate to have earned a
B.S. or M.S. degree in engineering. Applicants should have
experience in development and management of research programs and a
demonstrated capability for garnering extramural support for
