Netscape mail includes the ability to filter e-mail on certain
criteria. It has a nice, simple-to-use interface. It is great for
simple filtering of e-mail to various mailboxes or to Trash. If you
need to do really complex filtering see the section on procmail.
Using Netscape filters works best if you check your e-mail at only one
location (for our purposes, GF Unix machines are one location and GF PC
machines are another location). The reason why is that the filters
are local to that machine/location. If you setup filters here and
then check your e-mail at home, any new e-mail read at home will not
be filtered. Coming back to read it here will not filter the email
read at home. If you frequently read your e-mail at a second or
multiple locations, you have 3 options: duplicate your Netscape
filters everywhere, deal with some of your e-mail not filtering, or
use procmail.
