Scanning Handwritten Text for the Web

On the office PC with the scanner, start by placing the page face down on the scanner bed with the top of the page at the end of the glass nearest the hinge.

start Adobe Photoshop:
Start -> Programs -> Adobe -> Photoshop

open the scanner window:
File -> Import -> TWAIN_32

set Mode: [256 greyscale]

click the Overview button (binoculars)

drag the sides of the marquee box to the edges of the text, leaving very little margin around the text

click the Finescan button (middle)

after the scan is complete and the image appears click the [Finish] button

resize the image for the computer screen:
Image -> Image Size

click [O.K.]

zoom in on the image:
Vieww -> Fit on screen

Set the mode (step 1):
Image -> Mode -> RGB color

Set the mode (step 2):
Image -> Mode -> Indexed color

click [O.K.]

save the file to your network drive:
File -> Save As

click [O.K.]
click [O.K.] again in the GIF Options window


you can check the image in Netscape:
File -> Open Page
