The University of Melbourne’s School of Mathematics and Statistics is one of Australia’s leading mathematics and statistics schools. Position Title: Postdoc position in statistical genomics

Duties and Responsibilities: Functional genomics laboratory seeking a talented postdoctoral researcher to work on exciting projects in regulation of protein translation and small ORF encoded peptides (SEP). The Wang laboratory focuses on applying and developing genomics methods to study gene regulation ( Ongoing projects include functional genomics experiments to collect relevant datasets, developing novel experimental approaches to generate new biological insights, and developing innovative statistical and computational methods for analyzing existing data. The advertised position is based in Houston and will be jointly mentored by Dr. Heejung Shim in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Melbourne. Dr. Shim is well known for her creative approaches to analyzing next generation sequencing data ( The successful candidate will take on method development projects leveraging fine structure patterns in next generation sequencing data (e.g. ribosome profiling, RBP footprint sequencing, and RNA-seq) to extract biological meanings. Visits to Melbourne are expected contingent on satisfactory progress. The Wang laboratory is located in the Institute of Molecular Medicine ( at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).

Position Qualifications: A PhD in human genetics, genomics, statistics, computer science, or another relevant field. Experience in developing new statistical methods is preferred. Expertise in analyzing large-scale datasets and working knowledge on multiple programming languages are highly valued. An active GitHub footprint is a plus.
