Beaumont is an academic health system with numerous residency and fellowship programs. Beaumont research is heavily oriented towards translational research, investigating new treatments, pharmaceuticals and scientific approaches aimed at enhancing the excellence and safety of patient care.

Position Title: Biostatistician

Duties and Responsibilities: Beaumont is expanding their biostatistics group. Two masters’ trained biostatisticians are needed to work with investigators on a variety of projects. Each biostatistician will be expected to develop their own unique expertise in a few health/biomedical areas, and will collaborate with groups of scientists in those areas. Current areas of interest with biostatistical needs include cardiology, radiation oncology, urology, orthopedics, and obstetrics and gynecology. Each biostatistician will also be expected to develop as a statistical scientist.

The biostatistician will apply complex data management and a variety of intermediate and advanced statistical techniques and technical skills to promote the collection, analysis and interpretation of data arising from research studies. This work may include providing statistical consultation on study design and data preparation, assistance with the statistical aspects of manuscripts, posters and abstracts.

Position Qualifications: Master’s preparation in Statistics with statistical consulting or another related field with strong analytical skills required. Prior work experience in public health, epidemiology, and/or biomedical research is desirable. The biostatistician should have experience in mixed models, and experience with longitudinal data analysis, functional data analysis, and generalized additive models would be a bonus. The incumbent should have skills in descriptive analysis, and applying modern statistical methods in modeling of data. Experience with design and set-up of databases is also desirable.

The job requires accomplished technical writing and computer programming skills. The incumbent should have excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills. Proficient in at least two statistical languages such as SAS (strongly desired), R (strongly desired), STATA, or SPSS. Experience with other statistical software a bonus. Willingness to learn new statistical methods and new software. The incumbent should be able to document all aspects of analyses. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize heavy workload and function both autonomously and as member of a team.
