Senior Biostatistician

Beaumont is an academic health system with numerous residency and fellowship programs. Beaumont research is heavily oriented towards translational research, investigating new treatments, pharmaceuticals and scientific approaches aimed at enhancing the excellence and safety of patient care.

Position Title: Senior Biostatistician

Duties and Responsibilities: Beaumont is expanding their biostatistics group. An experienced biostatistician is needed to oversee the work of other biostatisticians, and to work with investigators on a variety of projects, especially in developing externally funded projects. The Senior biostatistician will be expected to develop their own unique expertise in a few health/biomedical areas, and will collaborate with groups of scientists in those areas. Current areas of interest with biostatistical needs include cardiology, radiation oncology, urology, orthopedics, and obstetrics and gynecology. The Senior Biostatistician will also be expected to develop as a statistical scientist.

The Senior Biostatistician provides complex statistical consulting, education, survey design and analysis, clinical trial design and analysis, experimental design and analysis, data management, manuscript preparation and review. Participates in grant development activities, technical research, and manages trial databases. Coordinates statistical tasks for individual projects: managing team production of deliverables, developing timelines for statistical deliverables, tracking project hours and budget, and assigning tasks within a project team. Provides mentoring and oversight to Biostatistics staff and trainees. The Senior Biostatistician will be expected to provide service to Beaumont by being a member a relevant committee (e.g., Scientific Review Committee, Institutional Review Board), providing insight on proposed project methodology, measurement, sample size and statistical analysis.

Position Qualifications: PhD (minimum 5 years’ experience) or Masters’ degree (minimum 7 years’ experience) in Biostatistics, or another related field with strong analytical skills. Work experience in leading analytical teams, conducting advanced statistical analyses, designing research activities, analyzing complex data sets and reporting results. Research experience in the health sciences arena required. Experience working with large national-level datasets preferred. Experience with protocols for handling protected health information or other highly sensitive information.

Accomplished technical writing and computer programming skills required. Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills required. Ability to multi-task, prioritize heavy workload and function autonomously. Proficient in at least two statistical languages/packages such as R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA. Strong skills in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
