Postdoctoral Associate
University of Pittsburgh

Company Information: The Department of Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health is dedicated to genetics research, teaching, and services. The department has three major research missions:

To develop and use genetic methods to investigate the causes and treatment of hereditary and acquired human illness.
To understand and explore the impact of genetics on public health, education, and disease prevention.
To appreciate the role of genetic diversity within human populations.

Position Title: Postdoctoral Associate

Duties and Responsibilities: Description: We are seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Associate in the field of computational biology, complex disease genetics, and/or statistical genetics. The individual will work directly with Dr. Hyun Jung Park in the Department of Human Genetics. Our research group has recently developed machine learning algorithms and big data driven computational models to better understand molecular dynamics in human cancer, published in high profile journals including Nature Genetics. We will use combinations of statistical modeling and computational techniques, such as statistical learning, network analysis, machine learning, and data mining techniques on diverse types of genetics/epigenetics data.

The primary responsibility for this position will be to make comprehensive understanding of molecular dynamics and understand how dysregulations in the dynamics would lead human diseases. The successful candidate will be offered a high level of research independence with opportunities to lead cutting-edge projects investigating human diseases. The individual will also have opportunities to collaborate with leading clinicians/wet-bench biologists in the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Carnegie-Mellon University.

Position Qualifications: Qualifications: Individuals with Ph.D. degree in computational biology, computer science, biostatistics, or biophysics are encouraged to apply. Fluency in programming languages, such as python or R, are required. Experience in cancer genomics, epigenomics, or other human diseases will be preferred.

Salary Range: Competitive and depends on research experience.
