The Biostatistics Shared Resource consists of PhD faculty and MS level staff biostatisticians who provide biostatistics support to basic, clinical and population cancer scientists. We believe in collaboration and team science, and work as a team to support all stages of cancer research project. OHSU has a vibrant and open biostatistics community for faculty and staff. BSR faculty has an academic appointment in a new School of Public Health, and our staff biostatisticians regularly interact with staff biostatisticians in other research and consulting units at OHSU.

Position Title: Biostatistician (Research Associate or Sr Research Associate)

Duties and Responsibilities: The Biostatistician plays a vital role in supporting the Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR) of the Knight Cancer Institute. Under BSR faculty supervision and in collaboration with BSR faculty, will collaborate to provide biostatistical consulting services to cancer researchers, including statistical analysis, preparation of tables, figures, and written summaries of results, results interpretation, and assisting in the preparation of manuscripts.

Responsibilities involve significant interaction with the shared resource client (OHSU cancer researchers) requiring excellent oral and written communication skills in order to explain complex statistical concepts and results to biomedical researchers who have little statistical training. The Biostatistician is expected to participate in general cancer center activities including attendance at the annual retreat, research program meetings and seminars, and office hours. Must be able to learn new statistical methods and keep up with newer, cutting-edge statistical methods in cancer.

The position reports directly to the Associate Director of the Biostatistics Shared Resource.

Position Qualifications: Required Qualifications:

Research Associate

Master’s degree in biostatistics or statistics or other related field and 3 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in biostatistics or statistics and 5 years of relevant experience
Familiarity with SAS and R programming
Excellent communication, analytical and organization skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
Proficient with MS Office Suite
Senior Research Associate

Doctorate degree in biostatistics or related field OR Master’s degree in Biostatistics or related field and 5 years of relevant experience
Familiarity with SAS and R programming
Excellent communication, analytical and organization skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
Proficient with MS Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:

Research Associate:

Cancer research experience
3 -5 years of biostatistics consulting experience in cancer research at an academic center or clinical research operation (CRO)
Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., STATISTICA, CART, SUDAAN)
CT.gov reporting experience
Experience with electronic database (EDC) and electronic case report forms
Senior Research Associate:

11-15 years of relevant experience that includes 5-10 years of cancer research experience
Satisfactory contribution to scholarship, such as 5 publications in peer-reviewed journal
3-5 years of biostatistics consulting experience in cancer research at an academic center or clinical research operation (CRO)
Familiarity with statistical software (e.g. STATISTICA, CART, SUDAAN)
CT.gov reporting experience
Experience with electronic database (EDC) and electronic case report forms

Salary Range: $60,000 – $90,000
