Assistant or Associate Professor of Data Science

Company Information: The department consists of 32 faculty and lecturers and maintains active research groups in Analysis, Algebra & Combinatorics, Computational & Applied Mathematics, and Statistics. The department is also home to about 35 graduate students and maintains lively graduate programs in mathematics and statistics.

UW’s statistics group features expertise in hierarchical modeling, time series, sampling design, probability, stochastic processes, survival analysis, experimental design, joint modeling, and statistics education. The department seeks an applied statistician who has demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary problems and statistical consulting, particularly related to data science. Possible research specialties include (but are not limited to) computational statistics, optimization, statistical modeling, Bayesian methods and machine learning.

Position Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Data Science

Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have a strong track record in research, be able to attract research funding, develop her/his own independent research program, work collaboratively with other scientists, and be able to teach a variety of courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Position Qualifications: Minimum qualifications: PhD in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a closely related field. Candidates with joint degrees and/or interdisciplinary work in areas related to Data Science are particularly welcome to apply.

Preference will be given to those with:

Demonstrated excellence in research in some aspect of Data Science
Excellent communication skills,
Postdoctoral experience,
Evidence of excellence in teaching and interdisciplinary research
Statistical consulting, and
Experience with active learning instruction
