Research Associate (Data Science)

Company Information: Savvysherpa is seeking postdoctoral candidates for a research associate position under the direction of Dr. Grant Weller. This position offers opportunities to develop and apply statistical and machine learning methods for novel applications in healthcare in a highly interdisciplinary environment. The position will also provide training at the interface of these methods with real-world products, relying on the envisioned end product and stakeholders to inform methodological approaches. Research backgrounds of particular interest include network analysis, time series forecasting, time-to-event modeling, functional data analysis, and analysis of spatio-temporal data, though candidates from all areas of data science are encouraged to apply. This position carries a company option for extension to a permanent leadership position in Savvysherpa’s research group after one or two years.

Position Title: Research Associate (Data Science)

Duties and Responsibilities: • Identify research hypotheses through review of research literature and analysis of existing data, including insurance claims, electronic medical records, and/or device signals
• Apply cutting-edge statistical and computational approaches to discover opportunities and build new data products for the healthcare system
• Collaborate with research teams including business-facing leaders and expert domain scientists to ensure methodological fidelity to research goals
• Produce clear technical reports and documented code for research efforts
• Communicate effectively and clearly to a range of audiences, including data scientists, domain scientists, and business professionals (internal and external)
• Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior data scientists

Position Qualifications: PhD (completed prior to anticipated start date) in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
