Position Title: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Statistics

Duties and Responsibilities: The Mathematics and Statistics Department at the University of Minnesota Duluth has a tenure track Assistant Professor position available Fall 2018. Job duties include participating fully in the three traditional components of academic activities: teaching (including course development and student advisement), research and service to the department, University and discipline.


Develop and teach courses
Demonstrate high command of subject matter
Have well organized course plans and deliver courses clearly to students
Make an effort in curricular development
Help students fulfill their academic needs
Maintain a consistent and positive student teaching evaluation record
Supervise student research
Advise students regarding both specific coursework and broader academic or career goals, both inside and outside the classroom


Make original contributions to the knowledge and interpretation in your field
Establish own research program, and earn an excellent reputation in field
Exceptional distinction in scholarship
Publish refereed journal articles of satisfactory quality and quantity
Make effort in seeking external funding


Participate in ongoing professional activities of one’s discipline
Participate in campus or system-wide committees
Outreach or community service that is reasonably related to the professional role of faculty member

Position Qualifications: Required: Ph.D. in statistics or equivalent from a regionally accredited university awarded or confirmed by July 1, 2018; an active research program; and teaching experience a the college level (teaching assistantship experience is acceptable).

Preferred: Excellence in written and oral communication; research accepted by refereed publications; collaborative, interdisciplinary research; experience in advising undergraduate- and graduate- student research; record of working effectively with a diverse student body; ability to teach upper division probability/statistics, such as probability and statistical inference.
