Position Title: Professor of Mathematical Statistics (tenure-track or tenured)

Duties and Responsibilities: Research:
The successful candidate will work in the field of mathematical statistics with an emphasis on current and future developments and
especially in the fields of high-dimensional data and data science. At the same time, the successful candidate will work in one or several fields of application within the ISBA group of the IMMAQ institute and related institutes. The most relevant fields are the life sciences, psychometrics, actuarial science, finance and econometrics.
The implementation of specialised statistical methods for data with a complex structure often leads to computational challenges to which the successful candidate will be alert.
Since the Bayesian paradigm is increasingly important at the international level, competences in methods related to it will be an advantage.

The successful candidate will teach both foundation courses (inside and outside the Faculty) and specialised courses in the Master in
Statistics, general orientation and biostatistics orientation. For specialised courses at the Master level, a significant contribution will be expected in terms of the different aspects of mathematical statistics and, in particular, statistics for high-dimensional data and data science.
The new Master in Data Science involves, among other things, the management and analysis of massive data with a complex structure as well openness to both the private and the public sectors. The successful candidate will take part in this new programme through his or her teaching and through the supervision of dissertation students.
The successful candidate will be committed to developing modern teaching practices (flipped classroom, project method of teaching, electronic platforms, blended learning).

More specifically the applicant will
– be responsible for teaching courses at all study levels (i.e. undergraduate and postgraduate), as well as in programmes of continuing education;
– supervise the final diploma research (i.e. theses) of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as Ph.D. theses;
– be involved in (and/or supervise, promote) research programmes;
– contribute to the international visibility of the University through teaching and research excellence;
– be available to ensure, in the long term, different service activities and responsibilities within the University and its entities;
– contribute to activities of the University with a societal impact in the fields of the economy, socio-cultural changes or cooperation with developing countries.

Position Qualifications: Qualifications : the applicant must have
– a Ph.D. degree in Statistics, or any related discipline, or any related discipline;
– significant scientific record with international publications;
– either studied abroad for an extensive period or have had substantial experience outside UCL;
– experience in and the aptitude for teaching at University level;
– capacity to work within a team of teachers and to integrate research findings into teaching;
– creativity and must be open to teaching innovation and interdisciplinarity;
– capacities required to undertake high-level academic research: capacity to raise research fundings, to supervise projects, to animate and lead a research team;
– good knowledge of both spoken and written French and English. If this is not the case, the applicant accept to learn French and/or English in order to be able to teach in French and English within 2 years. Fluency in other languages is an asset.

Salary Range: depending on level of entry (assistant, associate, …)
