Company Information: The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a doctoral, research intensive university located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas on an expanding, modern campus. One of sixteen campuses in one of the oldest public university systems in the United States, UNC Charlotte offers over 29,000 students a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. As the largest college at UNC Charlotte, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) houses 20 departments in the humanities, social sciences, physical sciences and military sciences, as well as 24 applied research centers and interdisciplinary programs. It offers eight doctoral degrees, 34 master’s degrees and graduate certificates and 34 undergraduate degrees. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is the largest department in the university. Currently the department has close to sixty full-time faculty and staff members, over 450 undergraduate majors and a robust Ph.D. program, the. Faculty research interests include such fields as algebra, analysis, computational mathematics, differential equations, mathematical finance, inverse problems, mathematical physics, topology, statistics, and biostatistics. The Data Science Initiative (DSI) is an industry-university-state partnership, led by the College of Computing and Informatics, the Belk College of Business, the College of Health and Human Services, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and includes collaborative partners in other academic departments. DSI offers extensive University-wide academic, research, and executive education programs, augmented with an integrated data and analytics platform.

Position Title: Assistant/Associate Professor in Statistics

Duties and Responsibilities: Applications are invited for a tenure-track position at the assistant/associate professor level in statistics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte starting August, 2018.

Position Qualifications: Required qualifications are a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in statistics, biostatistics, financial statistics, or other area of applied statistics, with a strong research interest in data science; a commitment to establishing a productive research program, and a commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This position is part of the department’s effort to support the data science program at UNC Charlotte. Therefore, preference will be given to applicants with expertise and experience in computational statistics and big data, especially with applications in banking, health, energy, or retail; a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and commensurate experience; potential for external funding; and a demonstrated commitment to teaching a diverse student body.
