Post-doctoral Fellow in Sports Analytics

Company Information: SFU is a research-intensive university with over 35,000 registered students located at three campuses across the Greater Vancouver Regional District. With eight faculties actively engaged in discovery and applied research, SFU routinely ranks among the top Canadian Universities.

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science has twenty-one research faculty, two lecturers and a statistical consultant. The department has a strong history of training (we currently have about 60 graduate students) and connections with industry.

Position Title: Post-doctoral Fellow in Sports Analytics

Duties and Responsibilities: The position will be in the Dr. Derek Bingham’s lab in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at Simon Fraser University. The position will focus on developing computational and statistical methods for predicting team performance, with special interest in basketball analytics. The post is a unique opportunity to work with leading statisticians at SFU and also scientists at Stratagem, a world leader in sports trading markets.

Position Qualifications: The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree in one of the following areas: Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or other disciplines with strong quantitative and computational background. Proficiency in at least one programming language is strongly preferred. Of course, a keen interest in sports analytics, particularly basketball, is essential. Familiarity with working with databases will be beneficial. The applicant will be expected to travel a few times a year to the U.K..

Salary Range: 55,000-60,000 (Canadian Dollars)
