Company Information: THE UNIVERSITY: California State University, East Bay is known for award-winning programs, expert instruction, a diverse student body, and a choice of more than 100 career-focused fields of study. The ten major buildings of the Hayward Hills campus, on 342 acres, contain over 150 classrooms and teaching laboratories, over 177 specialized instructional rooms, numerous computer labs and a library, which contains a collection of over one million items. The Department of Statistics and Biostatistics offers an undergraduate degree in Statistics, two post-baccalaureate certificates (in applied or theoretical statistics), and master’s degrees in Biostatistics and Statistics. The Biostatistics MS degree is an accredited Professional Science Master’s Program, and the Statistics MS degree offers four options (actuarial, applied, data science, and mathematical statistics).

The Department also teaches basic statistics courses for many major programs throughout the University. The options in the MS Statistics program allow students to customize their program specific to their career goals. The MS programs focus largely on applications and methodology. The courses are designed to prepare students for employment in the large and diverse Bay Area job market for analytics, statistics and biostatistics, as well as for employment opportunities nationwide. Our programs are flexible enough to allow students to prepare for Ph.D. programs, including at major research universities.

Currently (May 2017) there are 32 undergraduate majors (including double majors) and minors, about 22 biostatistics MS majors and about 110 statistics MS majors. Many alumni continue their ties with the Department, often recruiting current students for job openings or providing advice about curriculum development. The members of our faculty are devoted to teaching, involved in University affairs, maintain active research programs, and actively participate in local and national statistics professional societies. Faculty expertise covers a broad range including applied statistics, data science, computational statistics, Bayesian statistics, time series, statistics education, and biostatistics. University computer labs are well-equipped, with access to R, Python, SAS®, JMP®, MINITAB®, and SPSS®, and allow students to program using full versions of statistical software packages often used in the market. Applied courses include extensive computer use; elementary and major courses meet in a computer lab at least a few times a quarter. The class size for elementary statistics courses required by other majors is approximately 50 students. Classes for statistics undergraduate majors and minors are generally far smaller in size. Position Title: Assistant Professor of Statistics and Biostatistics (Data Science), Tenure-Track Faculty

Duties and Responsibilities: DUTIES OF THE POSITIONS:

The areas of application we seek are: Data Science, Data Visualization, Computational Statistics, and Statistics Education.

Duties include teaching undergraduate and master’s level students in statistics, data science, biostatistics, and probability theory and modeling. Undergraduate teaching includes service and general education courses, as well as major and minor courses. In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist the Department with administrative and committee work, and are expected to assume campus-wide committee responsibilities.

Faculty members teach, mentor, and advise an ethnically diverse student body. Faculty members maintain active research programs, oversee student research and consulting activities, and assist in preparing and administering the Comprehensive Examination for the MS degrees (given twice every year). Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses offered at the Hayward, Concord, and Online campuses.

Ph.D. in Statistics, preferably by June 2018.

Candidates with successful teaching experience at the university level are preferred.
