Postdoc in Biostatistics/Data Science
University of Southern California

Company Information: The Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California has a leading research group in environmental epidemiology and biostatistics, with an active and well-funded program in environmental health effects research and methodological research focused on environmental and genetic epidemiology. Health effects of air pollution on children are a major focus of the environmental health and environmental statistics groups within the Department. A dynamic and diverse group of investigators in the PRISMS Center also offers opportunities for a wide range of research collaborations with investigators at the Information Sciences Institute (ISI) at USC, at UCLA, and at other institutions participating in PRISMS.

Position Title: Postdoc in Biostatistics/Data Science

Duties and Responsibilities: POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION IN
BIOSTATISTICS / DATA SCIENCE

The Division of Biostatistics and the Division of Environmental Health in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California are seeking candidates with a Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, or Computer Science for a postdoctoral research associate position. We seek a candidate with strong training in statistical methods and applications, with interest in the use of “big data” in an environmental health context.

This recruitment is part of the Pediatric Research using Integrated Sensor Monitoring Systems (PRISMS) Centers at USC/UCLA. The PRISMS program is developing sensor-based, mobile health monitoring systems for measuring environmental, physiological, and behavioral factors in pediatric epidemiological studies of asthma. Anticipated activities include the development and application of statistical methods for personalized predictions of asthma exacerbations from real-time, spatially and/or temporally resolved data from cellphone/smartwatch-based health monitoring systems.

Central to the postdoctoral training is mentored research designed to foster skills leading to a career as an independent investigator. In addition to individual mentorship and collaborative activities, postdocs will have the opportunity for advanced multidisciplinary training through additional coursework at USC or other training and access to an active group of junior researchers participating in a career development program.
