Position Title: Director of Institutional Research

Duties and Responsibilities: The Director of Institutional Research is responsible for overseeing a comprehensive program of institutional research designed to support the mission of Lesley University by facilitating informed decision making, meeting mandated reporting requirements, and promoting use of data to foster institutional effectiveness.

The Director will work across the University to increase collaboration and consistency regarding the use of data, anticipating stakeholder questions and needs for data. This will include co-leading a University-wide data standards team and participating in setting and elevating key performance indicators in annual reporting across the University. The Director will work collaboratively to support the University’s strategic planning efforts. The Director reports to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and serves as part of a newly structured Educational Effectiveness team (including the Director of Assessment, Director of Systems for Organizational Effectiveness, and the Special Assistant for Retention and Student Success).

•Provides custom research and analytical decision support and quality improvement recommendations to senior administrators, including the President, VP for Strategy and Implementation, Provost, Associate Provost and Deans.
•Serves as a member of team of data stewards that will respond to requests for data and analysis to support strategic planning efforts.
•Works proactively with relevant stakeholders to identify their needs for data to support decision-making. Anticipates questions through review of institutional data, as well as relevant external research and policy studies.
•Tracks significant internal and external trends as well as trending institutional performance indicators/measures, and presents these data using interactive data visualization tools and dashboards.
•Collects, compiles, and reports data required by state and federal governments, regional and specialized accreditors, and other external constituents (e.g., NCAA, bond holders, insurers, funders, funding proposals and reports).
•In close collaboration with the Director of Assessment, collects, analyzes, and communicates institutional data for use in institutional planning and performance improvement, including benchmarking surveys such as NSSE/FSSE, SSI, in collaboration with marketing and retention specialists.
•In collaboration with the VP for Strategy and Implementation and the Institutional Effectiveness Team conducts quantitative research and supports qualitative research to inform the University’s strategic planning and evaluation efforts.
•Works with the Chief Information Officer and data stewards to contribute to an institution-wide data strategy, easy and appropriate access to data, and to assure data quality.
•Promotes the effective use of data and analysis by convening discussions of information needs and connecting producers of data to inform effective decision-making.
•Collaborates with faculty, Department Chairs, Deans, and Market Research Intelligence to identify internal and external data relevant for academic planning, program review, and new program planning.
•Communicates and disseminates data to both internal and external audiences using “fact book/quick facts,” searchable digital formats, data dashboards, and interactive data visualization tools.

Position Qualifications: •Master’s degree.
•Minimum 5 years of successful and progressively responsible Institutional Research leadership experience, including experience in higher education.
•A research-oriented, inquisitive mindset, with a proactive, audience-centered approach to data requests and needs.
•Demonstrated operational expertise with data management systems, data analysis, and reporting.
•Demonstrated success in communicating successfully with a range of stakeholders thus facilitating the use of data to inform planning on multiple levels.
•Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, and to work collaboratively and independently toward project completion.
•Experience using statistical analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, SAS, STATA) and a high level of facility with Excel or other spreadsheets.
•Must be authorized to work in the United States; if you hold a visa, your visa status must allow you to work at Lesley University.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience with the requirements and process for state and federal governments, as well as relevant accreditors.
•Experience with Ellucian’s Colleague student information system and the Informer tool for queries.
•Experience preparing data and analysis to support strategic planning in initiatives.
•Experience with data dashboards and data visualization/presentation tools, e.g., Tableau.

Salary Range: Salary Grade 28: $82,443 – $95,000
