Position Title: Post-Doctoral Associate, Population Sciences

Duties and Responsibilities: This is a three-year post-doctoral associate position, available immediately. Continuation of this position to the next 12 months is contingent upon satisfactory accomplishment of assigned duties. Conduct joint research with supervisor in the inter-disciplinary areas of public health, e.g., population-based sciences, behavioral medicine and psychology, statistics, and bioinformatics. The primary tasks are (i) to refine research questions, (ii) to develop formal analytical plan, (iii) to analyze the data, (iv) to develop new methods for problems where existing methodologies do not apply or perform poorly (this will be done in-collaboration with Bioinformatics cluster). Separate from this, the position will provide computational support to conclude other projects targeted at improving public health and facilitate development of an independent research program. Initial new work will focus on refining and mapping potential research questions to existing population-based data of smoking behaviors, and human biological databases.

Position Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in statistics, mathematics, bioinformatics, psychology, sociology, or related discipline. Familiarity with survey methodology, bioinformatics techniques, strong mathematical/theoretical skills, and strong computing skills. Expected to be highly interested in enhancing multi-disciplinary research in public health, and work closely with the supervisor and other mentors to accomplish public-health-related research goals, prepare manuscripts for publication in international peer-reviewed journals, give presentations at conferences and other venues on ongoing work, and help prepare competitive grant proposals.
