The Mission of the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology is:
1.To provide quality statistical support in terms of design and analysis of research studies developed by the clinical and laboratory investigators;
2.To train medical students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other research staff in the use of statistical methods and software;
3.To develop innovative statistical research guided by and benefiting clinical and laboratory based research projects; and
4.To develop epidemiologic studies in the fields of hypertension, women’s health, perioperative outcomes, and anesthesia.

Position Title: Post-doctoral fellowship (T32) in Mental Health Data Science

Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Healthcare Policy and Research (HPR) at Weill Cornell Medical College located in New York City is seeking a postdoctoral fellow in Mental Health Data Science. This position is funded through a multi-site NIH T32 program hosted by Dartmouth, Cornell, the University of Michigan, and the University of Washington.
Data Science is transforming mental health research by making mental health preventable and improving detection, screening and diagnosis of mental health conditions. The program at Weill Cornell has a focus on these aspects of mental health research which rely heavily on Data Science. Specifically, cutting-edge machine learning algorithms and natural language processing techniques will be utilized to analyze large administrative healthcare databases and electronic health records to answer pertinent questions in mental health research. At Weill Cornell, the fellow will work closely with Dr. Samprit Banerjee (Biostatistics) and with Dr. Jyotishman Pathak (Health Informatics).

Position Qualifications: • The candidate must have completed doctoral degree in a quantitative field (e.g. statistics, biostatistics, informatics, health informatics, computer engineering etc.) or a doctoral degree in medicine, psychology, sociology, epidemiology, public health, or a field related to social science with demonstrable experience in programming and data analysis.
• The ideal candidate will have strong quantitative analytical skills and strong writing and communication skills.
• U.S. citizens or permanent residents (green card holders) only.
• Experience working with health insurance claims and electronic health records data will be considered an added advantage.

Salary Range:

Benefits: The fellow will benefit from the collective networks of the T32 faculty and fellows at all four sites via research-in-progress webinars, subject-area mentoring, and other training activities. A candidate with a quantitative background would gain knowledge and expertise in the substance area of mental health research and a candidate from non-quantitative field will gain knowledge and expertise in advanced analytic techniques such as machine learning and data mining. The Weill Cornell Department of Healthcare Policy and Research provides a multi-disciplinary and stimulating environment to prepare the fellow for an independent career in mental health research.
