Position Title: Research Associate in Astrostatistics with teaching duties in Statistics

Duties and Responsibilities: The post holder will conduct research under the supervision of Professor David van Dyk in collaboration with the CHASC International Center for Astrostatistics. The CHASC Center is an international consortium of astrophysicists and statisticians working to solve statistical challenges arising in astrophysics, solar physics, and particle physics. The post also includes teaching duties at the undergraduate and MSc levels.

Position Qualifications: Candidates will have a PhD in Statistics or a closely related discipline, and will have research interests in a relevant area of statistical science. Candidates must be able to demonstrate potential as both an independent researcher and as an undergraduate lecturer.

The successful candidate will have a specialist knowledge of statistics, particularly in statistical computation, Bayesian method and astrostatistics or closely related areas, together with extensive experience in the development of statistical methods in astrophysics, solar physics, and/or particle physics, in order to collaborate with Professor David van Dyk. They will be expected to display clear evidence of outstanding promise and originality in research, and have a good publication record commensurate with their experience.

In addition, the successful candidate will have recent experience of lecturing or tutoring in statistics, and will be able to demonstrate the potential to teach university level statistics effectively and enthusiastically at an introductory undergraduate level. The successful candidate will also have experience of promoting effective learning and interaction with students.

Salary Range: £36,070 – £43,350 per annum *
